Kara This Week

We started on Tuesday and cleared Attumen with no problems,

Moroes we stumbled once and then downed him on the second try.

We moved on to Maiden, we were without our paly, we were heavy on Melee. Made it a challenge.

We had -

Prot Warriors x3
Warlocksx2
Myself
Holy Priest
Rogue
Hunter (Shadow Priest for Moroes)
Mage

The repent sucked and we just weren't pulling it together. We decided to hold off on Maiden and head to Opera. We got Romulo and Julianne - I heard this is the worst one, needless to say we 2 shotted it. We cleared the trash that drops $$$ and called it a night.

-

Last night we had a slightly different group composition

Prot Warx3
Warlock
Hunter
Mage
Ret Paly
Myself
Priest
Rogue (Hunter for Maiden)

It took us many attempts but we finally killed Maiden and moved on to Curator. On the way to Curator our lock had to leave and we subbed in a hunter. We only managed to get 2 attempts in before trash respawned but the usual issue came up again - DPS. We just don't have it, granted our group make up was less than perfect for this fight, but on the inital attempt we did very well. Is getting DPS above 400 for DPS classes when initially doing Kara really that difficult because of gear or is it playstyle / spec?

I honestly don't know.

But as of right now my thoughts are thus - The first four will be on farm but Curator is going to pwn us for a while. I know we stubbed our toe on Maiden, but I think that will change.

Any and all help is appreciated.

For hunters spec'd marksman, 400+ dps can be troublesome. The +hit stat is critical.

We actually did better when we had 2 hunters and a rogue vs 2 hunter +shadow priest

Maybe you could try with three healers instead of two? That is how we did it in the beginning... we always take three healers for all Kara fights actually.

On the other hand, you have too many prot warriors (lucky you, will come handy later)... I try to have 1 prot warrior 1 feral Druid. The latter does DPS cat form on Curator... in any case the first time you downed Curator you had 2 prot wars, the difference may be there only.

Yea...we had a heavy melee group vs. Maiden too.

We had 2 shot at Maiden because we basically had too many melee in when she did her big chaining Holy Wrath that ended up nailing our tank for 17,321 damage in one KA-POW! I switched to my +1460 Healing set and just did Bolts of Lightning and backup healing on the raid. She went down for good after that.

Run heroics! Heroics and heroics! Or even lvl 70 normal instances, many people in your raid is undergeared for doing dps. Make them run instances, and practice doing what they do IN the instances, not when soloing, not when doing Kara and beyond. Make them get SWStats, see what the highest raid dps person of their class is doing, and their gear/spec, and set that for the first limit. I can't speak for the warriors/rogues, having never played one. But I can help with the lock/hunter dps problems.

For the Warlock:
He's destruction, but he spams shadowbolt! /target Medilock /doh
urge him to try a affliction/demon build, like this one

He can still spam shadowbolt, but his shadowbolt would do more damage, and his DoTs more damage. Woohoo! Also, there's some nice upgrades out there for pre-raiding warlocks. That would help with his dps.

For the Hunter:
SS is your friend again. Spend some gold on BoE epics. It's worth it. Replace with my newblet hunter's gear, whereever you have greens.
here's my armory:

especially the trinkets.

Hope your guildie warlock and hunters will see this and improve on their dps! Nice job with your blog so far =)

Ick, the links got messed up. Just cut the things, sooo, maybe if anyone wants to go to the link, they have to copy+paste the links onto somewhere else, delete the spaces, then they can go to the link.

Ooops, sorry about triple posting, but forgot the warlock tactics. So highlights for any warlocks in your guild that wants to use my spec.

1. Keep your imp out (And only imp!) at all times! Reasons being the stam buff, and another that will be explained soon enough.
2. Keep Fel Armor on at ALL TIMES! The +damage buff is awesome, and the 26% buff to healing spells and effects is unbelieveable (Works with pots and things like siphon life, drain life too, also stacks with Alchemist's Stone).
3. Woohoo, Dark Pact! When in a raid or even 5/10 mans with a pally, ask for BoW on your imp, and BoS on yourself! Keep your imp shifted, and dark pact whenever you need it! Your imp regens like crazy!
4. DoT your target(s) with ALL you have (including siphon life, UA, etc, then life drain if you want (the bonus from all your DoTs is totally awesome, plus the fel armor bonus! But don't bother life draining in 25 mans, your raid needs your awesome dps). Or shadowbolt if you are fairly high on mana (Although I save mine for the free SB that procs quite often for me).
5. Spell Damage first, Stam second, Intellect Last! A lock really shouldn't have less than 9k stam with their imp out or a bigger mana pool than their health pool. Your imp and imp. life tap's got your mana covered, worry about your overall damage first, then your health pool. Your raid wouldn't want a lock with 20k hp, but next to nada spell damage.

I THINK that's it for now, I'll add more if I think of anything else, but that ought to be enough to nudge your willing locks along the road of "uber lock dps".
